'Open your eyes,'

Kairi woke up suddenly, hearing the voice echoing inside her head. It was another dream. Someone... Someone's calling her, asking her to meet. She has not the slightest idea who it was but she knew him. From long ago, maybe. But she knew the voice that was calling her. The voice was a slightly husky but gentle and kind at the same time. She also saw a pair of dazzling blue eyes, then hair, tufts of brown hair messily arranged on the boy's head.

Kairi closed her eyes.

'Who are you?' she asked herself.

Knowing she won't be able to fall asleep, she got to her feet and changed her clothes, even though it's pretty much dark outside, she knew she had to be somewhere. She brushed her shoulder-length red hair and stepped out from her house before locking the door quietly, so her parents wouldn't know.

She walked in a daze going straight towards... the ocean. Underneath the moonlight, the water glistened, as if stars were inside the body of water. Kairi closed her eyes and listen to the sound of the waves. It was a beautiful sound. Slowly, the wind picked up and Kairi shivered but she held her stand and continued to listen.

'Remember me, Kairi,' the voice said. It was very faint, like as if the wind was playing tricks on her. But she knew the truth. Someone was out there. Someone she forgotten but, oh, how much she loved him. Her heart won't stop beating as the wind continued to send her silent messages, only for Kairi to hear.

'Kairi,' the voice was slightly stronger, clearer. 'Remember me,'

And the voice left. Just like that.

So, our dear Kairi returned to her house, slipped into her bed and slept until the next morning. She woke up lazily and since it was a gloomy Saturday, she decided to stay at home and maybe clean her room. She sat up and made her bed, putting her stuffed animals on one corner. She looked around her desk and realized that there were a lot of scattered books. She went up and picked them up one by one and went to her bookshelf.

That's when she saw it. A pink book labelled 'Kairi' on the spine and she knew instantly what it was. She placed the books she was carrying and reached out to the particular one.

Kairi blew the dust that were clinging to the book and coughed, that wasn't the smartest move she made. The book was gorgeous, pink all over with gold carvings on the front and back. In the middle of the front cover was a very delicate 'Kairi's Diary'. It seemed like the book was meant for her and no one else.

Ah, she remembered where she got the book, they were staying in Twilight Town and there was a peculiar bookstore that sells handmade notebooks, the owner would make the book and customers would have their custom-made book, especially made only for them. The store wasn't crowded but the orders are endless, at least, that was what the storekeeper says.

Kairi's mother got the book for Kairi's 5th birthday and Kairi loved it so much, she would take it everywhere with her.

Kairi wondered how the book she thought she lost all those years ago was actually here the whole time? Maybe she's been busy. She shrugged and opened the diary. She flipped through the yellowed pages until an entry caught her eye.

'Dear diary,' she read. 'I met a new friend today! He's really nice. I hope we could play again!'

'Well, that was short.' She commented on herself.

Below the entry, was a picture. Kairi nearly dropped the book. In that entry, was a boy staring straight at the camera. The boy had amazing blue eyes and tufts of brown hair. That boy was the exact boy that appeared in her dreams. Before she could think, her feet sprinted down the stairs while Kairi screamed for her mother.

'Kairi! What's wrong?' her mother asked with concern.

'This boy,' She pointed at the picture. 'Do you know him?'

Her mother smiled, looking mildly amused. 'Of course I know him! You used to play with him when you were younger,' Then she frowned. 'Don't you remember, Kairi?'

Kairi froze. They... played together?

'Umm, do you know where he is now, mom?'

Her mom opened her mouth then closed it again. 'Strange, I don't remember. He disappeared a few years back, when you were around 10 or 8...'

Kairi froze. When she was 10? She ran back upstairs, ignoring her mother's worried face and slammed her bedroom door shut. She flicked through more pages and found the entry she wanted to see.

'Dear diary,' her voice shaking. 'Sora rescued me but he left once again, into the unknown world. I miss him. when will he come back?'

She flicked to the next page and read again.

'Dear diary, something weird happened today. There were a lot of news about Sora disappearing and his mother is very worried. I wonder if he'll come back to us. I miss him already.'

'Sora,' Kairi whispered and instantly a whole rush of memories returned to her. Sora, the boy who rescued her and she rescued him in return. The boy she couldn't remember because... of what? Why couldn't she remember him back then and all of a sudden everything rushes through her.

Just like that, everything made sense. Castle Oblivion, Hollow Bastion, everything came flooding back. Sora left her to fight for something else. Kairi changed her attire and quickly went out to the beach; to that special place where she knew Sora's presence would be strongest. Kairi ran with all her might and as she ran, she heard voices or at least, past conversations. She heard Sora laugh at something she said. Sora crying when he fell down. Everything rushed back as Kairi ran, tears threatening to spill out anytime.

Finally, she reached the cave and entered, feeling very tired from the run.

This was their secret cave. Their hiding place.

Shakily, Kairi stepped inside and wondered about. The cave was much smaller, now that she's grown but everything still looked the same. The walls were filled with drawings she and Sora made. She sat down and cried.

Sora. Her Sora. He was out there fighting something, a war maybe against the people who was about to do harmful things to do world or maybe to those who made her forget about everything. Sora's fighting and risking his life for her and all the world and there was nothing she could do.

'You remembered me,' She heard a whisper. She turned and looked around for the voice.

'Sora?' she chocked.

'No, I'm not Sora. Or at least, not fully him.'

'What? I don't... I don't understand.'

'The name's Roxas,' She heard a chuckle. 'Got it memorized?' Kairi realized the voice was a sad one. His voice was slightly higher than Sora's but there was a kind of... Sora-ness in it too.

'He'll come back, Kairi,' the voice continued. 'He'll come back soon, really soon,'

Kairi listened carefully as the voice slowly disappeared. In her mind, the voice- Roxas, kept on buzzing. She replayed the last sentence over and over again until she believed.

'He'll come back,' she said determinedly. 'And when he does...' A little smiled played on her lips.

Kairi stepped outside and looked towards the ocean. The sun was setting, casting orange rays throughout the waves, again, making them shine. Time sure did fly. Kairi loved this time of day. Everything seemed so peaceful. She closed her eyes.

The wind came through a gentle breeze, almost like fingers caressing her face. She felt a spray of water towards her cheek, as if someone was trying to... kiss her? The wind continued to caress her body and Kairi can't help but sigh, the feeling was nice. She certainly loved the ocean.

'Thank you,' she heard a whisper among the wind. Then she heard it again.

'You remembered me,' it said. 'Thank you, Kairi. I love you,'

The last three words echoed through the wind until it stopped again to form a gentle breeze. Kairi blinked her eyes open as tears began to spill out. She was happy... until she looked down.

On the sand, right beneath her feet were the words 'I'll be back,'. Kairi blinked and the words were gone but a Thalassa Shell replaced it instead. It was a promise. Kairi knew.

Kairi smiled. 'I love you, Sora. Come back soon.' she whispered before leaving the place and went back home.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kairi was shocked when she heard a splash and two figures emerged from the water and swam towards the shore. One of them, was a boy with blue eyes and spiky brown hair. His friends tackled him as soon as they could and he fell back into the water. He poked them around for a while before turning his attention to Kairi. He fished through his pocket and showed her a band of Thalassa Shells. She remembered making it for him.

'We're.. We're back!' the boy smiled goofily.

Kairi couldn't help but giggle and extended her hand. 'You're home.'

And Kairi has never been happier in her life.
Woah that was long. It was supposed to be for :iconchained-promises: but I wonder if this is allowed ._.

Anyhow, this story is just... something. KH is the main reason I came here to dA and I've made a lot of friends among the way. I thank all of you, those who are reading this and those who has support me since.. umm, two years ago. I love you.

I'm pretty sure this is my Magnum Opus.
